Studio of Graphic Design and Multimedia (AGD+M) at the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic offers the education in the field of graphic design and related disciplins. The main objective of the AGD+M are digital media which became more significant than printed media. Thus students assignements can be interpreted in new connotations and various approaches can be applied. Students knowledge of informatics and programming is a great advantage. the AGD+M promotes the interdisciplinary through data visualisation, programming of generative design, creating an application for interactive media, animation, video, 3D digital modeling and 3Dprinting, e-publishing, webdesign, creating fonts, computer games, interactive information design.

Course Generative Design

educator Helena Lukášová

These projects were created by the students of Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, at the course – Programming of the Generative Design. The aim of the course is to give the opportunity to students to play and be creative in coding, test what possible to express visualy and how it could be incorporated in their further works be it fine art, game design, animation, graphic design. For the presentation of these projects we used interactive external interfaces.

Jan Polak: PARAGROWTH

generative design video, 2017

The landscape is generated based on text, thwe lenght of words, positive meaning is depicted if brighter colors and grown trees while words with negative connotation create devastated landscape.

Hai Duong Tran: WEB

generative design video, 2017

Generated web structures a are seeking connection thus filling up the space.  The web can be also undesrtoot as a poetic visualization of www.

Henrich Lauko: ROSCHACH

generative design video, 2016

Generated black structures organized symmetrically on the white backround reminding Roschach test, black ink spots. This image is constantly evolving even though we have no reference of space from the movement we can sense the depth.

Michal Obrocnik: VECTION

generative design video, 2016

Slow movements of waves of parallel horizontal lines which change color with the height of the curve are very calming and meditative. The movement of the waves which we associate with the healing power of nature, in this project the visula is coded. The artificiality does not contradict wit the meditative power of the project.

Jakup Spirik: TREEGASM

generative design video, 2016

Growth can be generated, the nature is not imitated anymore, it can be simulated. Simplicity of the developing grown structure becomes more complex with branching , demonsrating the power of the natural processes.

Helena Lukášová: Man Made Secret

generative design video, 2015

This is the virtual dissection of an egg, slowly revealing the inside. The model was materializedthrough 3d printing. The physical object can be viewed only through the other methods of imagining such as XRay or CT Scan. What intrigues me is the fact that I  will not be ever able to access my creation, only through other means of representations. It is the embodiment of a secret. The egg has very strong symbolic meaning. It is the symbol of the beginning of  the world, of life, of the universe in many mythologies. Also it symbolizes  immaculate conception in the Christian tradition.  I have this symbol stuck  in my mind thanks to the renaissance painting Brera Madonna, I always wondered wha the egg is hanging above the Madonna’s head.

Helena Lukášová:
Found Movements: Hopskotch, Kick

generative design videos, 2014
In this projects I used recorded body movements through motion capture methods. The move is so authentic that through motion tracking devices person can be identified.I found these bits of movements online. This moment I found very interesting, something so ephemeral and unique as a body movement is separated from the body and exist independently and anonymously. Here I put these movements inside digital models which have figurative proportion but their perception is rather as an object. The movement makes them human.
