Visual art and art education is one of many study fields at Department of Art Education at Masaryk University in Brno. During their studies students go through many subjects such as painting studio, graphic art studio, graphic design, aesthetic and art history education. Me, as a teacher of ‘Graphic Art Atudio’, decided to join my students in the project Unleashing screensaver. The main reason to do it was to develop students’ imagination and critical thinking. I considered it as an important part of their studies to share their ideas in international context. Andrea Uváčiková.
In the beginning, the second group of participants worked more theoretically which showed very productive in the end. This group has created a set of three interacting videos. The first part contains words the students were writing on a moving paper roll. The second part contains two animations. It is the result of writing of signs, which are deformed in the drawing process because of the moving paper roll. The suggestion on a different understanding of word meanings or different reading of a sign in different places on the planet is supported by a video recording technique that simulates the rotation of the Earth around its axis.
