Ideas Generation, as taught by Cristina Maldonado and Jennifer Helia DeFelice at Prague College within the Fine Arts Experimental Media programme, is a class designed to assist artists in navigating and defining a conceptual framework for their artistic practice. Artists use research-based methodologies to fine tune their work and explore viable avenues for its presentation. Assignments allow students to reflect on their work through a personal process of self-awareness. The aim is toward the development of an intention based approach within a deep imaginative and contemplative state. Through encouragement, artists are granted the confidence to express their personal vision in preparation for a professional artistic career.

You Make me Feel Uncomfortable

Working with the theme of triggering moments of discomfort and vulnerability we propose to create a video-collage piece which examines the connection between discomfort and survival on an instinctual level through the conscious and unconscious mind in terms of unleashing. The piece will be based on the idea of provoking and capturing those sincere moments of disturbance that we cannot control in everyday life. Discomfort manifests itself through the human body as movement; voluntary and involuntary. Through an emotional participatory element, the piece aims to challenge the observer by placing them in the role of a trigger putting someone’s discomfort into action. Close-up images will be shot with mobile devices and post-production tools will be used to enhance the subject’s sentiments and disturb the frame of experience.
